Family Literacy Day is an annual Canada wide event to raise awareness and promote literacy for families. 15 minutes of literacy a day can significantly improve the literacy skills of a child and their parents. Literacy can involve a number of activities including cooking, counting, singing, physical activity, and word games.
This year, Parent Link, Hinton Adult Learning, the Hinton Municipal Library, and the Dr. Duncan Murray Recreation Centre are teaming up to bring a fun filled event to the community. Join us at Parks West Mall, on January 29th from 2pm until 6pm.
A variety of stations will teach parents and caregivers how to integrate quick and simple literacy activities into everyday activities with ease. Local notables, including Constable Deanna Alford, Councillor Stuart Taylor, and Community Peace Officer Ryan Alice, will be sharing their favorite stories in the story corner. Literacy can also include a physical aspect. The Dr. Duncan Murray Recreation Centre will be showcasing how to integrate active moments into everyday life with physical literacy games. To round out your literacy adventure, there will be 15 minute literacy games to participate in, as well as crafts and snacks.
